Narrow Trenching
GT Jones Contracting provides precision narrow trenching for utility installation using the Tesmec 400MCT tracked trencher. Where cable ploughing is not suitable — in harder ground, on verges and roadsides, or where a defined trench profile is required — narrow trenching offers a controlled, reduced-dig alternative to conventional excavation.
The Tesmec produces a narrow, uniform trench with accurate depth and alignment, reducing excavation width, spoil volumes and reinstatement compared with traditional digging.

Precision Trenching for Utility Infrastructure
The Tesmec 400MCT provides highly controlled trench excavation where precise trench geometry, consistent depth and spoil management are required. It is particularly effective for utility installations where trench dimensions must be tightly controlled for telecoms, fibre optic, power and duct routes.
Controlled Mechanical Trenching
The Tesmec uses a rotary cutting wheel system that produces a narrow, uniform trench with excellent accuracy. Typical trench dimensions include:
- Widths from 80mm to 200mm
- Depths from 300mm to 670mm
(depending on cutting wheel configuration)
This allows installation in urban, roadside and utility corridor environments where excavation width must be minimised.
Productivity & Efficiency
Powered by a 238hp Stage V engine, the Tesmec delivers high production output while maintaining low fuel consumption relative to conventional excavation methods. The machine offers:
- Continuous trench excavation
- Conveyor spoil removal
- Accurate trench alignment
- Controlled spoil discharge
- Reduced manual trimming
The side conveyor can load spoil directly into dumpers, reducing handling and keeping working areas clean.
Smart Technology
The Tesmec incorporates advanced digital systems including:
- TrenchTronic electronic digging control
- Re.M remote machine monitoring
- Smart Tracker as-built digital tracking
These systems allow real-time control of trench depth, digging pressure and route performance, improving consistency and reducing risk during installation. A radio remote-control system also lets the operator control the machine remotely, improving on-site safety and visibility of the trenching tool.

Environmental Advantages
Compared with conventional excavation using excavators, the Tesmec significantly reduces:
- Excavated width
- Spoil volumes
- Vehicle movements
- Reinstatement materials
- Overall carbon impact
The narrow trench profile also reduces disturbance to adjacent surfaces and improves reinstatement quality.
