G T Jones Contracting Ltd successfully delivered the laying of 33kV cable in a 200mm duct over 3km through narrow Pembrokeshire roadways.

Works at Deer Park Lane, Pembrokeshire involved the installation of a new 33kV electrical cable within a 200mm duct along a narrow public road. Due to the restricted working environment and the nature of the existing highway, the works were undertaken under a full road closure to provide a safe and controlled working are for the construction team and members of the public.
Trenching operations were undertaken by our Tesmec 400MTC rock wheel Trencher, selected to provide the required cutting capability through the existing ground conditions while maintaining an efficient installation process. The trenching operation was carefully managed along the narrow road corridor, with particular attention given to maintaining the required trench alignment, depth and duct installation tolerances.
Several existing water mains were identified along the trenching routes. To safely expose and cross these existing services, a Vac-Ex excavation system was utilised. This enabled the services to be carefully exposed, minimising the risk of damage and allowing the new cable route to be installed safely around existing infrastructure.
On completion of the cable installation, the road was fully reinstated, this included appropriate backfilling and compaction of the trench, followed by restoration of the road surface to provide a safe and suitable finished carriageway.
The project was completed successfully within the constraints of a narrow public road and well within the set timeframe. The use of specialist trenching and Vac-Ex equipment, combined with effective traffic management and careful service avoidance enabled the 33kV cable installation to be delivered safely and efficiently, with the road returned to a suitable condition following completion of the works.
